Asmi is a unique and delicate Sri Lankan sweet, known for its lace-like appearance and light, crispy texture, topped with a kithul treacle coating. Made with Rice flour, cinnamon leaf extract (or juice from leaves like davul kurundu), Kithul treacle syrup, and oil for frying. No artificial sugars, colors, flavors or preservatives.
A thin batter is prepared and poured through a special tool into hot oil to create fine, net-like patterns. Once fried, the crispy Asmi is coated or drizzled with Kithul treacle coating nicely for sweetness. Asmi is a festive sweet, traditionally made for Sinhala and Tamil New Year. Its intricate design makes it a visually appealing treat for celebrations
